For therapists, coaches, and clergy
Help couples grow
from their strengths.
Training with James Christensen, LMFT, and Catherine Roebuck for professionals who work with couples.
Who it’s for
Licensed therapists, relationship coaches, and clergy who help couples. You bring your own training and experience. We teach a strength-based way of working with couples that fits into the work you already do.
What we teach
The strength-based approach helps each partner grow, rather than trying to fix the other one. It rests on four ideas:
Differentiation
Helping partners hold on to themselves while staying emotionally connected.
The crucible
Using the heat and pressure of conflict as the raw material for growth.
The 50-50 principle
Why partners tend to share the same level of emotional maturity, and what that means for the work.
Adult love
Guiding couples from chemistry-driven love to love as a choice.
Three ways to learn
Live cohort
A small group that meets live over several weeks to learn the approach from start to finish, with time to practice and discuss real situations.
Monthly consultation group
Bring your work with couples to a small group each month. Talk through what is happening in your sessions and get input from James, Catherine, and colleagues.
Workshops
Single live sessions that go deep on one topic.
Dates, prices, and details go to the interest list first.
Taught together
James Christensen is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California. Catherine Roebuck is a relationship coach in Florida. They teach every training together, bringing a therapist’s and a coach’s view of the same work.
Good to know
Do the trainings offer CE credits?
No. These trainings do not offer continuing education (CE) credits.
Is the consultation group clinical supervision?
No. The consultation groups are educational. They are not clinical supervision, and you remain responsible for your own work and for following the rules of your license or role. Please leave out names and other details that could identify the couples you discuss.
I’m a coach or a member of the clergy. Will this qualify me to provide therapy?
No. The training adds to the skills you use in your own role. It does not license or certify you to provide therapy.
